Milda ~~ Seventh square in the series "In Love With Granny"

Hello yarnians, welcome again..!!
It's still wintery here though officially we are into summer months... 😁 In the first week of February when the cold wave hit India, it was very chilly and cold here so we decided to keep an Undhiyu party, we as in, me and my train friends ( I catch same local train to commute to my work place, so like me, there are some ladies who also take the same local and sit at the same place, this is how I came to know this set of awesome ladies all from different age groups but with same enthusiasm and love towards life. We became friends and of course crochet was our common friend there too..!!).
So let me tell you something more about this delicious Undhiyu, it is traditionally made in Gujarati families in winter season, it is a mixed vegetable dish but what makes it special is, varieties of veggies that go into it ( to name some - sweet potato, purple yam, yam, brinjal, green peas, potato, ). It also has muthiyas in it. Muthiyas are a kind of kofta balls but made with Fenugreek leaves, 4 different types of flour (wheat, rice, Jowar n Bajra) and various spices. How can I forget curd, it is the binding ingredient, those balls are then deep fried in ground nut oil. Yummy..😋. These muthiyas also go into Undhiyu. You can have muthiya by itself too. Traditionally it is made in earthen clay pot, upside down, buried in earth and heat on the up side. But in urban areas, this facility is not available so we cook it on our normal cooktop. But nonetheless it tastes yum.

We had it with traditional handbread made with rice flour. That was all about our "Undhiyu party". Such simple moments of joy makes our life wonderful.
Next weekend we went over to visit our native place, my husband's ancestral home, nestled at the foot of the hill. It was a good little break from daily routine. The smell of firewood, chirping of birds, fresh air, a cup of good tea and some crochet material, what else you need for a weekend break.

Now coming back to our pattern, “Milda” is a seventh square in the series “In Love With Granny”. Milda is a very simple pattern worked in rounds and fair isle crochet style. Just follow the instructions and chart and you will be through.
I wanted to release it in the month of February (month of Love) but some family priorities kept me away from crochet and I could not publish it. Anyways, better late that never as the saying goes..!!
So here we go, presenting Seventh Square, “Milda”. Milda is as usual 10’’ square made in fingering weight yarn and 27 rounds and with same final stitch count.

Milda is the goddess of Love in Lithuanian mythology. The name appealed me and the pattern celebrates love thus “Milda”.

Material Required:
Your favorite yarn and a matching hook, I used 3 mm hook with fingering weight yarn
Tapestry needle to weave in the ends
Scissors
Level:
Enthusiastic beginner
Finished size:
10" with fingering weight yarn and 3 mm hook
Abbreviation and stitch guide (US terms):
st (stitch) sts (stitches)
ch (chain)
sts (slip stitch)
yo (yarn over)
sp (space) sps (spaces)
sc (single crochet)
dc (double crochet)
fpdc (front post double crochet)
tr7tog (Bobble – 7 trebles together) – {YO twice, insert hook in the st indicated, YO and pull up a loop (4 loops on the hook), (YO and draw through 2 loops) × twice} × 7 times, (4 loops on the hook), (YO and draw through all the loops on the hook)
Fair Isle dC (FIDC) – YO, Insert hook in between the 2 lines of the 'V' of the stitch from previous round (underneath both loops and the horizontal bar at the back of the st), YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through 2 loops on the hook, YO, pull through all the loops on the hook.
Fair Isle SC (FISC) – Insert hook in between the 2 lines of the 'V' of the stitch from previous round (underneath both loops and the horizontal bar at the back of the st), YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through all the loops on the hook.
Colorway:
I have used minimalist colors from my stash but you can use as many colors as possible. For pattern instructions I have used different font colors as below:
Color A - Black
Color B - Red

Pattern Notes:
Join rounds with slip stitches in the first st made unless otherwise noted.
Pattern repeats are marked within round with any of the following: **, (), {}.
Stitch count for each round are listed at the end of the round.
Groups of stitches are marked in parenthesis () or {}.
Please go through the "STITCH GUIDE & ABBREVIATIONS" section before you begin. All stitches in this pattern are listed and/or explained in this section unless they are explained within the round itself.
I have done my best to make sure this pattern is accurate. However, if you find any errors or typographical mistake or have any query with regard to the pattern, please drop me an email on hooksbooksnme@gmail.com
In most of the rounds I start by saying, start your round with standing st and the position where the stitch has to be placed; this is just a starting instruction and should not be counted as a st . Moreover, you can start the round with slip st and corresponding chains for a standing st (such as ch3 for dc, ch4 for tr and so on).
Refer chart for color changes.

Please block your work after finishing and weaving in all the ends.
Instructions:
Start with double magic ring. If you are not comfortable working with MR then you may chain 4 and ss in the first ch to form a loop.

And now it is time for today’s WoW (Words of Wisdom).
Today I would like to introduce to one of my favorite Indian author “Sudha Murthy”. She is the chairperson of Infosys Foundation (non-profit organization to support underprivileged sections of society) and best-seller writer. She has authored many novels, short stories, travelogues and non-fiction books. I managed to read one of her book “Three thousand stitches” last month, it is a collection of 11 short stories. The first story in the collection gives the book its name. The story focuses on the Devdasi tradition in Rural India and how Ms Murthy brought change in the lives of Devdasi’s and their children. In one function which was held to celebrate the running of their own bank with 80 Lakh deposit, they request Sudha Murthy to be the chief guest of the function. It is there that they hand over Sudha an embroidered bedspread which had some portion stitched by each of them so there wewr three thousand stitches.

So often, its the simplest acts of courage that touches the lives of others..!!

Hope you are enjoying my patterns as well as some bits of reading from here and there.

Happy crocheting..!!
